Lorries in Stoney Middleton

A significant number of heavy goods vehicles using the A623

The Action Committee were surprised to find out this week that the route from Stoney Middleton to Curbar School had already been assessed and a report issued by the Strategic Director for Children and Younger Adults and Director of Environmental Services.

The officers recommendation (page 3 of the attached report) is that: "The route is not hazardous for the purposes of an entitlement for free home to school transport given the availability of a footpath and facilities to aid road crossing".

The route chosen (page 5 of the report) includes crossing the road opposite Meadow Close junction and using the concessionary path so avoiding the narrow footpath at the junction with the Nook. Did they take a buggy with them? The officers mention that "Access to the footpath means crossing the A623, however, there are reasonable gaps in the traffic to enable pedestrians to cross the road." Yes - but not for OAP's!!

The officers state " Traffic is fairly consistent with a significant number of heavy goods vehicles using the A623"

Please read the attached report before joining the Walk from Curbar to Stoney Middleton on Monday afternoon - meet at Curbar School at 3.pm and please bring buggies.
