Sophie's Plea!7.29.34pm GMT Wed 7th Mar 2007
I am writing to say; "PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE DO NOT CLOSE STONEY MIDDLETON SCHOOL!!". It is a fantastic little School , Our whole village revolves around it.
It was my primary school and I had the best time there. I am in Year 9 at Lady Manners now. When I first started secondary school in Year 7 we had to do CATs (Cognitive Abilities Tests) and because of my good results I was accepted into The National Academy of Gifted and Talented Youth.
Stoney Middleton School taught us about good values and how to respect one another, and take care of each other. When I left Stoney Middleton school to go on to Lady Manners, which is a huge school , I had no problem settling in straight away and making lots of new friends.
At Stoney Middleton School we worked closely with the Peak Park Wardens and learnt how to take care of our countryside and our village. One such project which we took on with the help of Peak Park was clearing an overgrown area at the back of the Roman Baths in the village; everyone worked extremely hard together as a team and we unearthed some long forgotten stone steps which led up the bank side. No one knew they were there, hidden for at least two generations, a major discovery for our school and the village.
We have taken part in many events with other schools, usually against much bigger schools than ours but we have always done our best. We have always done really well in the Design Challenge organized by Rolls Royce at Derby, taking part against numerous other schools. Stoney School football team are a force to be reckoned with; our team may be made up of big ones, little ones, boys and girls, but what a great team and what fun we had, even if we didn't always score a goal. One of our proudest moments was when our school took part in the swimming gala held at Matlock, we didn't win first place but we were awarded the FAIR PLAY TROPHY for good sportsmanship and teamwork .
The school toilets at Stoney Middleton have got to be the best school toilets in the world. Mums, Dads, pupils, ex pupils and Friends got together a working team and worked through the weekend and more to totally revamp the loos from boring magnolia to dinosaurs in the boys and a seaside theme in the girls, totally awesome! Everyone takes pride in our village school and we aim to fight very hard to keep it. PLEASE DO NOT CLOSE OUR FANTASTIC LITTLE SCHOOL IN STONEY MIDDLETON! Your sincerely, Sophie Hobson (age 14) Ex Stoney Middleton School Pupil
