Gifts for St. Martin's12.21.21pm BST (GMT +0100) Sun 13th Jul 2008
Two gifts have been very kindly donated by Mrs Maureen Mason, of items which belonged to her son, Tony, who very sadly died last year. She has asked that they be sold and the proceeds to go to the St. Martin's Fabric Fund. First there is a framed original watercolour of The Nook, by the Baslow artist Norman Tomlinson. This is the view of the church you see as you first turn into The Nook, and which the artist allowed us to use for our church Christmas card in 2003. It measures, in its handsome frame, 17" x 14".
The second item is a set of six porcelain plates, 81/2" in diameter, each with an etching of a different Stoney Middleton landmark, and finished with an 18-carat gold border. This set, which has a Certificate of Authenticity, is number 1 of a limited edition of 75, of The Canterbury Collection, made in 1999 for the Millennium and distributed by Decor Art Creations Ltd. The intention is that each of these two items be sold to the highest bidder, sealed bids to be submitted by 21st September. There will be a reserve price on each item and we would hope to be able to raise a good three figure sum altogether. Please submit your bids, either to Trevor Askey, Denman Cottage, The Nook (01433 631490), or to Michael Miller, Whitebeam Cottage, The Nook, Stoney Middleton, Hope Valley S32 4TU (01433 631590).
