Have Your Say on the future of Stoney Middleton in the National Park

The Peak District National Park Authority are at the next stage in the development of the Local Development Framework.

The Core Strategy document has been developed following extensive consultation and will guide all the important decisions on the use of land and buildings including locally needed affordable housing, business and community facilities, as well as conserving the distinctive characteristics of the area that residents and visitors value so greatly.

Before the final document is published Parish Councils and residents are being asked to comment as to the best and most sustainable locations for development and how this can be achieved while protecting the National Park. In particular the views of all Parishes on the best way of facilitating locally needed development, such as affordable housing, business premises and community facilities.

Stoney Middleton is mentioned five times in the Core Strategy as follows:-

Affordable Housing - pages 51 and 239 - the plan suggests 2 affordable houses but this can be increased subject to a survey. (We have received 21 responses to our recent survey)

Flooding - page 100 paragraph 9.103.

Fluorspar Extraction - page 173 paragraphs 12.68 to 12.72.

Bus Transport - page 197 paragraph 13.74.

The Parish Council and the PDNPA would like to hear your views on the following aspects.

· How does the policy affect you?

· Do you agree with the policy in terms of how it affects your Stoney Middleton?

· Do you consider that Stoney Middleton should receive more or less development in principle than the policy allows?

The consultation will last for 6 weeks, closing at 5pm on the 7th December.

Following this consultation PDNPA will be finalising the policies and preparing for Examination at the end of 2010. Prior to this there will be a final chance for comment next summer, when the focus will be on the soundness of the process. Points raised at that time will assist the Inspector who will preside over the Examination.
